Two New Summer Learning Adventures
& Look at Rural Reproductive Health
酴圖弝け Reproductive Health Project eNews #70 May 2, 2026
Greetings from the 酴圖弝け Reproductive Health Project!
Happy May! Spring flowers in full bloom, the pollinators collecting as much early-season pollen as they can, and thousands of medical students across the country will don cap-and-gown and walk proudly with their medical diploma in hand. This is an exciting month in which so many potentials become realities. In May we also celebrate International Workers’ Day (“May Day”) on May 1, National Women’s Health Week on May 8-14, and Mother’s Day on May 10 (in the US).
To kick off this month’s newsletters, we are focusing on the intersecting crises of healthcare access in rural communities and maternal health. Pretty much every aspect of the US maternal health crisis is worse for women and pregnant people living in America’s rural regions and communities, and that includes the problem of accessibility for prenatal and postnatal care, abortion care, family planning, and preventative and harm reduction services.
In this issue of the newsletter, 酴圖弝け’s Reproductive Health Fellow, Dr. Taylor Spears, joined up with 酴圖弝け’s Digital Rural Health Fellow, Dr. Jasrina Kaushal, to co-author the Spotlight on Reproductive Health & Justice essay, Rural Reproductive Health & the Digital Divide: Why Access Can’t Wait. Following their Spotlight essay, you’ll find lots of information and resources relevant to understanding and addressing different dimensions of the rural (reproductive) healthcare crisis.
And – exciting news! We’ve just added two NEW Reproductive Health Institutes to our Summer 2026 schedule: one for medical students and one for premedical students, and both of these institutes will be focused on best approaches to combating misinformation and disinformation about abortion care. We have space for eight students in each of these newly added Institutes, so check out the information about them linked below and submit your application today! READ ON!
