Leader Spotlight: Michael José Pereira
Today’s spotlight is »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ member and leader Michael José Pereira!Ìý

Why did you join »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ?
Deciding to go to medical school is to set out on the long, enduring journey which culminates with our board certifications and a promise to honor the white coat. Prior to arriving at that decision, somewhere along the way, we (un)consciously resolve to intrinsically personify certain structural principles that jointly represent the meaning of being a leader in the world of health care: perseverance in advocacy, honesty in humanism, and integrity in practice. I, myself, joined »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ due largely in part to the appreciation I have for the organization and these values it has imprinted within itself, its leaders, and the medical community. I want to behold and therein represent these above mentioned essential ideals and do my part in helping »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ to achieve their goals.
Why did you become an »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ leader?
An »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Leader, in my mind, embodies much of what is required to be a great physician—a compelling passion for patient advocacy and exceptional leadership drive. An »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ Leader strives to continuously strengthen the venerable core that makes up the »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ national organization. By being in a position to oversee that chapters in the northeast are maintaining and actively representing these values is a fortunate position to have been granted opportunity to.
What is your favorite »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ moment?
My most defining »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ moment would have to be attending the 2017 »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ National Convention, in our nation’s capital. While my favorite would have to be receiving my congratulatory email from the national team notifying me of the opportunity I would have to be a Premedical Regional Director for the 2017-2018 year.
What advice would you give to current & future »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ leaders?
I would advise current »Æ¹ÏÊÓƵ leaders to continue working hard to make this organization an exemplary symbol in the world of health care. To you, future leaders, I challenge you to become as knowledgeable as possible about the problems that are plaguing your generation of physicians and come up with set goals in which you, as a collaborative whole, can conjointly approach and resolve.
